Music News For the Week Of August 11, 2013

This is the official video for Hail To The King by Avenged Sevenfold. I really enjoy this song since the time it leaked, then the lyric video and now this one. I think it will definitely strike a chord with old and new fans alike. The album by the same name comes out on August 27th.  I know I will pick up a copy. You can get their tour dates in support of this album here (they also have Ghost B.C. and Deftones opening): http://www.avengedsevenfold.com/shows

Allen Lanier, the original keyboardist and rhythm guitar player for Blue Oyster Cult, died at the age of 67. He lost his battle with lung disease. RIP!

Danzig has been working a covers album for a while now (I will save you all my rant again on cover albums by artists) and no he isn’t going to be reforming the Misfits at this time.  But he has teamed up with Cherrie Currie of the Runaways to do Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra’s Some Velvet Morning. Apparently there was a link to the song or a snippet of it but it looks like it’s been shut down. At least you know the record will be out soon.

The Replacements have confirmed the reunion line up for several dates. The lineup is Paul Westerburg, Tommy Stinson, Josh Freese and David Minehan. Slim Dunlap suffered a stroke last year, so he won’t be performing.  You can get dates here: https://www.songkick.com/artists/547836-replacements

Now word has it he is back in the studio and working on the third album. I’m not sure what Stockdale is doing but either way it’s new music from him. At least I can be content with that.

Okay, this week is the battle of all the bands that won their category. Make sure you get your vote in for the ultimate band.

This week’s Rockucation is: this guitarist was in band called The Moving Sidewalks that opened for Jimi Hendrix and he mentored him. He also went on to create another famous band. Can you name him and the band he is in now?

Seth
